| NCC, CCAA Races Shuffled By Friday Night Games 02-12-2005 |
Three nationally-ranked team fell in NCAA, Division II women's basketball competition Friday, February 11. The lone ranked team to escape, No. 20 North Dakota, did so only by winning 95-78 over No. 16 Augustana in Grand Forks, N.D. The win moved North Dakota into a first-place tie in the North Central Conference with Minnesota-Duluth. Those two teams play to break the tie on Saturday, February 12 at North Dakota. A pair of upsets shuffled the standings in the California Collegiate Athletics Association. In San Diego, unranked California-San Diego upended No. 15 and league co-leader Chico State 80-77. Elsewhere, unranked California State-Bakersfield nipped Cal Poly Pomona 100-99 in overtime. The loss ended a seven-game winning streak for Pomona and dropped the Broncos into a second-place tie in the CCAA with Chico State, one game back of conference-leading California State-Dominguez Hills. Two free throws by Gillian Lillich with four seconds remaining erased a 99-98 Pomona lead and gave the Roadrunners the victory.
