No. 6 Fairmont Out In WVIAC Quarters, Others Survive Wednesday Play

Six nationally-ranked teams were in action Wednesday, March 2.  Five of the six posted victories, including No. 1 Drury which advanced to the Heartland Conference championship game with an 81-40 victory over Lincoln.  No. 5 Anderson also won, topping Queens 110-73.

No. 6 Fairmont State was the lone casualty, losing 83-73 to West Liberty State in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference quarterfinals.  No. 10 Charleston advanced to the WVIAC semifinals with an 80-70 victory over West Virginia State.

Other Wednesday winners were No. 24 California Poly-Pomona (81-78 over California State-Dominguez Hills in regular season play) and No. 25 Minnesota State-Moorhead (W 89-64 over Winona State in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference tourney).

Five more ranked teams hit the hardwood on Thursday, March 3, including No. 3 Washburn, No. 7 Emporia State and No. 17 Central Missouri State, all in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship in Kansas City.
