ALBANY, N.Y.-Brian Beaury, the head men's basketball coach at St. Rose, will take a medical leave of absence for the remainder of this season. Coach Beaury has confronted a myriad of non-life threatening medical issues throughout the past four years and after discussing his on-going health concerns with his family and doctors, he has decided that it is in his best interest to step aside at this time and focus on his health for the next few months.

Coach Beaury emphasized that he will continue to have daily communication with his coaching staff and players regarding their practice and game preparation. Meanwhile, assistant coaches Mike Long and Mike Perno will handle the program's day-to-day operations throughout the remainder of this season.

"I have had some health concerns. Due to my recent stay in the hospital, I felt that it made sense to focus my energy on getting well right now. I made my mind up to do this while I was in the hospital during Thanksgiving weekend. I just needed to get input from my doctors and support from the College, and everyone is behind me 100 percent", said Beaury.

"One of my concerns during the last few years was that I didn't want to abandon the team. I always have a real warm spot for the seniors. This is no different. However, since we are off to a good start at 6-1 and have a good foundation, I feel comfortable that we are in good hands with Mike Long and Mike Perno. We have already had 35 practices, I played for Mike Long and Mike Perno played for me. With that peace of mind, I can focus on some things that I have not focused on in a long time. My plan is to be back in the spring. I will definitely see our seniors graduate."

"Coach Beaury has continued to be fully committed to the men's basketball program despite facing some challenging health issues during the past few years. The time is right for him to take a medical leave and focus on his health. Brian has built a solid foundation for our very successful program and has prepared this year's team for the season ahead. We are very confident in the abilities of Coach Long and Coach Perno to take the reigns and provide the leadership and direction needed at this time," said St. Rose Athletics Director Cathy Haker.
