EDINBORO, Pa.–Prior to the game with Slippery Rock Wednesday, February 13, Edinboro honored head coach Greg Walcavich for earning his 500th win.  Afterwards everyone paid tribute to Ryan McLemore.  The 6-foot-9 senior broke the PSAC and school record for blocked shots with 12, recording a triple-double in the process, to lead Edinboro to an 80-62 win over The Rock.

The victory was Edinboro’s 11th in the last 12 games and boosted the Fighting Scots to 17-5 overall and 7-1 in the PSAC West.  Slippery Rock falls to 5-17 and 3-5, respectively.  Edinboro, ranked fifth in the East Region, has now won six straight games against The Rock and 15 of the last 16 meetings.

McLemore entered the evening leading Division II in blocked shots, and earlier in the year he had gained a share of the blocked shots record with 11 against Bloomsburg.  Edinboro’s Jason Roseto and Melvin Hooker and Bilal Salaam of Kutztown had previously blocked 11 shots.

The 12 blocks give McLemore 120 blocks for the season, pulling him to within five blocks of Hooker’s school record of 125 set in 1979-80.  He also moved into seventh place in career rebounds with 745.

After a relatively quiet first half in which he had six points, four rebounds and four blocks, McLemore dominated play in the second half.  In addition to the 12 blocked shots, he would finish with 13 points and 11 rebounds.  He made 6 of 8 field goals.

All five starters scored in double figures for Edinboro.  Joseph Jones led the way with 22 points, adding six assists and five rebounds.  Gerald Warrick and Gil Cummings joined McLemore with 13 points, with Warrick adding eight rebounds.  Devon Knight finished with 10 points and five assists.

Edinboro never trailed in the contest, taking the lead for good at 6-4 and building a 12-point lead in the first half before settling for a 39-28 lead at intermission.  Slippery Rock would never pull closer than ten points over the final twenty minutes.  The Fighting Scots’ lead would reach 25 points on several occasions, the last 76-51 with 4:33 to play.

The Fighting Scots shot 46.9 percent from the floor and made 15 of 25 free throws.  Slippery Rock became the 21st opponent in 22 games to shoot less than 44 percent from the floor, as The Rock finished at 37.1 percent.  Edinboro leads the PSAC in field goal percentage defense and ranks fourth in Division II.  Edinboro also enjoyed a huge advantage on the glass, outrebounding the Rock, 51-35.

Jamar Scales was the lone player in double figures for Slippery Rock, coming off the bench to score 11 points.
