CROOKSTON, Minn.-Jonte Flowers set a NCAA Division II career record for steals in leading No. 3-ranked Winona State to a 115-75 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference win over Minnesota-Crookston Saturday, February 23. The win completed a season sweep of all 18 NSIC games for the Warriors and improved their NSIC winning steak to 48 games. WSU also now has a 23-game winning steak.
Flowers finished his last collegiate regular-season game with ten steals, breaking the previous Division II record of 383 set by Eddin Santiago of Missouri Southern State from 1999-2002, and now has 388 for his career. Flowers also moves up to No. 3 all-time in all NCAA divisions.
The Warriors didn't take long in taking control of the game by building a 57-37 lead by the halftime break. From there the Warriors outscored the Golden Eagles 58-40 in the final 20 minutes of play.
Flowers led the WSU attack with a game-high 34 points and added seven rebounds and four assists to go with his ten steals.
John Smith followed with 19 points and David Johnson finished with 14 points.
The Warriors were 44-of-75 from the field and outrebounded UMC 40-28.
